Concerned about the safety and hygiene protocols of your airport, airline, hotel, restaurant, cruise line, tour operator, or destination? Look for this organization’s stamp of approval.
States and countries are opening up to visitors again. But how do you know if it’s safe to go? The World Travel & Tourism Council hopes to give travelers some peace of mind.
Working with governments and health experts, the WTTC has come up with global hygiene and health protocols for destinations and the tourist-related industries that serve them. These standards are based on practices recommended by the Centers For Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), and will be updated as new information is available.
A WTTC stamp of approval tells you an airport, airline, hotel, outdoor shopping site, cruise line, restaurant, tour operator, destination, or other travel-related entity has adopted and met the group’s safety and hygiene criteria.
Countries, regions, and cities (Portugal, Ontario, Cancun, and Barcelona, among others) have signed on, as have 200+ CEOs of travel-related companies, including most of the major hotel chains (including Hilton, IHG, Radisson, and Marriott). Like TripAdvisor’s “Certificate of Excellence,” look for the emblem on restaurant doors, framed behind hotel check-in desks, and affixed to travel-providers’ websites.
While it isn’t a guarantee of absolute safety, the stamp does indicate the establishment or place is committed to implementing and following top health experts’ best health and hygiene standards.
Twist’s Take: Want a bit more confidence in the hygiene and safety standards of your destination or travel-service provider? Look for the WTTC stamp of approval.
