The eight best compression socks for travel.

I usually switch out my shoes for a pair of spa slippers on long flights. But sometimes my feet swell so much I can barely get my shoes back on at the end of the flight.

Solution? Cool it on the salty foods in-flight and compression socks. After putting many brands to the test, here are my top eight picks, including my favorite.

The seven runners-up

  1. Comrad ($19-$29)

These are as stylish as your favorite everyday socks, but they offer comfortable compression of 15-25 mmHG. Choose from 10 color combinations. Husband wore them under a suit and no one was the wiser.

  1. Physix ($14-16)

These durable socks are made from an antibacterial material that is super soft and comfortable. I used them for hiking in the Alps, too.

  1. Laite Hebe ($13-$19)

These sleek socks feature a compression level of 12-15 mmHg and a welt-top band that keeps the socks in place without digging into your legs. The moisture-wicking material is incredibly soft, and I like that there are lots of patterns and colors to choose from. (I went with bright argyles.)

  1. Blitzu ($12)

These socks combine compression fabric with kinesiology taping to reduce leg pain and increase blood flow. They have a compression level of 20-30 mmHg plus a shock absorption effect that also helps reduce swelling. I found them pretty tight but pretty effective, too.

  1. Crucial Compression ($6-$16)

These socks are perfect for summer travels when you need a no-show option. They are my go-to for my sneakers and some flats.

  1. 2XU ($35)

Take this pair on your next ski trip. The high filament yarns keep your feet dry and warm even in the most undesirable weather. Works for me in Colorado!

  1. Go2 ($10)

The on these unisex socks helps to stimulate blood flow, while the cushion under the foot provides extra comfort for travelers who are on their feet all day. I kept them on for a long walking tour of Amsterdam and was glad I did.

The winner

SB Sox ($8-$13)

Thanks to offering not just a range of shoe sizes but four calf circumferences as well, the SB Sox fit perfectly around my calves. The no-slip cuff kept them up all through a 16-hour flight, and the lightweight, breathable, moisture-wicking material meant they stayed dry and odor-free. Reinforced toe supports prevent blisters and cushioned heels make long days sight-seeing more comfortable.

What I especially like about the SB Sox is their graduated compression, meaning they’re tightest around the ankles and get looser up towards the calves. They’re available in a range of compression levels. I went with 20-30 mmHg, though you can opt for 15-20 mmHg for a lighter touch.

Twist’s Take: Hate post-flight cankles? Try any of these compression socks on your next flight!
