This airline’s cabin map now shows you where babies are seated.

The Japan Airlines seat-selection map now shows travelers where babies will be seated on upcoming long-haul flights.

“Passengers traveling with children between 8 days and 2 years old who select their seats on the JAL website will have a child icon displayed on their seats on the seat selection screen,” reads the airline’s website.

This is great news for everyone who travels on JAL. Parents with small children can “establish their territory” by booking themselves and their lap children in their seats of choice from the get-go, while people who prefer to keep their distance can (depending on availability) select seats elsewhere.

Seats booked for passengers with infants are marked with baby icons. As to be expected, the map is more accurate the closer it is to the departure date. Note: the map may not accurately reflect seating arrangement for travelers with infants if tickets were booked through third-party agencies or as part of a tour package.

The new seat selection tool complements Japan Airlines’ other family-friendly policies. Not only does JAL rent children’s booster seats on select routes, the airline also offers free airport strollers, diapers in sizes M and L, hot water for warming bottles, and snacks and age-appropriate meals for babies up to age 2 and children between ages 2 and 12. Depending on availability, your little one may even receive a small complimentary gift from the airline.

Twist’s Take: If you’re considering an overseas trip with babies, check out Japan Airlines; if you don’t want to sit beside an infant, ditto!
