This airline’s safety video cracked me up.
Airline safety videos are usually a snooze fest, but Corendon, a small Dutch leisure airline, has decided to shake things up, turning a mandatory requirement into a memorable marketing opportunity. To celebrate their nonstop flights between Amsterdam and Curaçao, Corendon created a safety video that’s hilarious as well as informative.
Corendon is a small Dutch leisure airline with a handful of aircraft. On November 3, 2023, the airline launched nonstop flights between Amsterdam (AMS) and Curaçao (CUR). The airline was so excited about this route it created a safety video specifically for it.
The video was shot at the Corendon Hotel, located next to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Scenes alternate between the hotel and a Boeing 747 parked in the hotel garden (despite the route being operated by an Airbus A350).
The actors switch between Dutch and what sounds to be Papiamento, a Portuguese-based creole language spoken in Curaçao.
The video features a mix of Dutch and Curaçaoan celebrities, including stand-up comedian Jandino Asporaat, who takes the lead role. You’ll also spot familiar faces like John Williams, Rico Verhoeven, Wendy van Dijk, Everon Jackson Hooi, Liza Sips, Jasmine Sendar, Najib Amhali, and Shirma Rouse. And let’s not forget the popular Curaçaoans, such as Juni Julier and Olympic athlete Liemarvin Bonevacia. Even Corendon’s founder, Atilay Uslu, makes a cameo appearance.
- Fun fact #1: The Amsterdam to Curaçao route offers an adults-only seating area at the front of the aircraft. For an extra fee, passengers aged 16 and above can enjoy a kid-free zone.
- Fun fact #2: Corendon owns another hotel in Amsterdam that features a suite with a 737 cockpit. Perfect for aviation enthusiasts who want to take their love for flying to the next level (pun intended).
Twist’s Take: I a sucker for goofy airline safety videos; here’s a great one.
