Here are fifteen countries where Americans need entry permission.

While a US passport grants easy access to many international destinations, some countries maintain specific entry requirements for American citizens. Currently, at least fifteen nations require US travelers to secure a tourist visa or electronic travel authorization (ETA) before arrival. Here is a list of those countries and a summary of their requirements.

Note: Not listed are those countries where the US Department of State has issued travel advisories against visiting, as well as destinations that have suspended visa services for American citizens.

As visa requirements, processing times, fees, and application procedures are subject to frequent changes, you should consult the State Department’s country-specific pages for the most current information.
