Tile has been the Bluetooth tracker to beat since day one, and they’ve significantly improved their products over time, with waterproofing, longer distance operation, and (hooray!) replaceable batteries.
But the opportunity to build Tile’s technology directly into rechargeable products from partner brands has always been more exciting than the brand’s titular trackers, and there’s no better implementation of this than the Keysmart Pro.
“Essential,” “best keychain ever”—I’m willing to throw a lot of superlatives at the Keysmart Pro.
Why? It combines a flashlight, bottle opener, key fob, and Tile tracker into a minimalistic, sleek package that doesn’t jingle or poke a hole in your pants.
Even better, you can add accessories like multi-tool, wrench, pocket clip, scissors, ruler, pen, USB stick, pliers, socket, fire starter, and pocket knife to make it a tool that is perfect for you.
Setting up the Keysmart Pro is as simple as unscrewing a few flat heads, adding your keys, and pairing with your phone. The Pro includes a bottle opener and LED flashlight, and can hold up to 10 keys (note: there’s a loop for your car key fob).
You can, of course, use the app to track down your lost keys, and you can also use the button on your keys to “ring” your phone. I stow my keys in my carry-on or messenger bag when I’m traveling, which means I’ve got Tile tracking of whichever item they’re in.
While the Pro hasn’t made the jump to USB-C charging, the battery lasts for 45 days (!), so I don’t need to bring the included micro-USB cable on a trip.
Color choice is good: in addition to black, there’s mossy oak (camo), slate, gold, rose gold, and red. I went with red because it made me happy; gold and rose gold were tempting as colors easy to spot in my bag.
Price? The black is $45; other colors, $60. (Note: The price drops to $30 if you don’t need BT tracking or the flashlight.) While a bit outside the range of impulse buy, it’s been worth it for something that has saved me more than once from being late to an appointment because of misplaced keys.
