A packable air lounger will make your next outdoor concert, camping trip, or indoor movie night more comfy.

I discovered these “air sofas” in Lake Garda, Italy. People were using them to lounge on rocky beaches and boat decks. Back at home, I bought two Wekapo Air Loungers for Husband and me. Since then we’ve taken them to outdoor concerts and on beach trips, and laid them on the floor for indoor movie nights.

No pump is required; just whisk the bag through the air to inflate. The trick is to close the mouth of the bag after each whisk, keeping it closed until you begin the next pass. After three-four passes there’s usually enough air inside (the bag doesn’t have to be completely full); roll the end and clip it shut.

Note: I’ve cheated and used a fan to fill them (a hair dryer would probably work, too). I also saw an enterprising soul employ a leaf blower for teh job—five seconds and done!

The Wekapo can support up to 500 pounds, and is wide enough for two people to snuggle. There’s a pillow-shaped headrest and a carry pouch (packed up, the kit weighs about two pounds). The tough nylon exterior is resistant to tears and holes; I haven’t punctured mine yet after three years of use on grass, sand, rocks, and wooden floors.

A little over a dozen solid colors and prints are available. I chose Honey Twilight Leaf for a summer vibe:

Husband went for one of the two shades of camo, allegedly to help shield him from being spotted by wildlife when he’s doing nature photography. (I think he just doesn’t want Bambi to catch him napping.)

Outdoor concerts, beach trips, picnics, camping, relaxing inside by the fire—for $39, get your lounge on!

Twist’s Take: Pack an air lounger to your next outdoor concert, camping trip, or beach escape.
